Lymphedema Awareness Day

The First Lymphedema Day

The Founder of National Lymphedema Network, Saskia RJ Thiadens, started lymphedema day to promote the awareness of lymphedema and to honor the struggles that people with lymphedema have to navigate. The date of March 6 was chosen because that is the day the National Lymphedema Network was incorporated as the first nonprofit organization dedicated to lymphedema. Above is a photograph of the very first award being given to a patient advocate, Shevra Tait, on Lymphedema Day March 6, 1994. Saskia’s extraordinary vision has now transformed into a global movement where everyone is united in celebrating World Lymphedema Day. It is a day when the world joins together in support of all those living with lymphedema and honors the extraordinary providers and their contributions to lymphology.

Join the Movement

National Lymphedema Day reminds us that awareness grows when people come together. Whether you share a story, support the community, wear the mission, or help amplify education and resources, your voice helps make lymphedema more visible and ensures no one faces it alone.

Keep the Momentum Going

Lymphedema awareness grows when people take action together. Whether you want to share your story, support advocacy, volunteer, or deepen your connection to the community, there are meaningful ways to help advance awareness all year long.
