Join us for a special virtual community “book club” conversation with Kiersten Wall, author of The Weight We Carry: Navigating Life with Lymphoedema. This free session offers a welcoming space to explore the themes of her memoir, connect with others in the lymphatic community, and engage directly with the author.
Kiersten Wall’s memoir chronicles her deeply personal journey with lymphoedema - from the sudden onset of symptoms as a college athlete to the emotional, physical, and financial toll of navigating a chronic, incurable disease. Through misdiagnoses, grueling therapy, and the loss of her athletic career, Kiersten ultimately finds strength, acceptance, and purpose. Her story is a powerful testament to resilience, and her mission is to bring joy, hope, and inspiration to others who feel isolated in their own struggles.
This conversation aligns closely with the NLN’s mission to empower, educate, and support individuals affected by lymphatic diseases. By sharing real experiences and honest reflections, the book - and this discussion - help foster connection, reduce isolation, and strengthen the sense of community that is at the heart of the NLN.
Whether you’ve read the book, are just getting familiar with it, or simply want to join the conversation, this is a meaningful opportunity to hear Kiersten’s insights, ask your questions, and connect with others who understand the journey. All are welcome to participate.

Kiersten Wall is the author of The Weight We Carry: Navigating Life with Lymphoedema. She is an Associate Director with a passion for thoroughbred horse racing and spreading lymphoedema awareness. Growing up, Kiersten bounced around with different dreams not knowing what she wanted to do. Whether it was a professional baseball player, jockey, a paleontologist, photographer, or a graphic designer, horses were always a constant deep down in her heart. Her lymphoedema journey became intertwined with finding her niche in the thoroughbred industry. After giving it a try as a groom, brief opportunity as a rider, horse sales showman, and payroll at a racetrack, she landed herself the best gig of all promoting and supporting the Virginia thoroughbred horse in her home state of Virginia. The drive she has for the horses, association’s members, the horsemen, and the industry is immeasurable. The passion gets her through all the good days and the bad with lymphoedema. Other activities Kiersten enjoys in her spare time is preparing and competing in horse shows with her Off Track Thoroughbred (OTTB), spending time with her dogs, and enjoying every moment of life with her husband. When they have some free time between race seasons and events, Kiersten and her husband sneak away to experience new adventures.
