Dear Friends,
The Scientific Conference Committee looks forward to welcoming you to the 9th Biennial National Lymphedema Network (NLN) International Conference jointly sponsored by the University Of Chicago Pritzker School Of Medicine. The conference, Lymphedema: Breaking Through the Barriers: Research, Education and Practice, will take place September 22-26, 2010, at the beautiful new Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek Hotel and Conference Center in Orlando, Florida. Its prime location in the heart of 482 acres of mature woodlands and natural waterways, surrounded on three sides by Walt Disney World Resort. The primary goal of the conference is to promote interdisciplinary collaboration and to share the breakthroughs and innovations in the field of Lymphology. This is an exciting opportunity for new, established, and experienced practitioners and investigators to exchange treatment principles and philosophies with other experts to further the field’s pioneering status as the discipline continues to press forward.
Pre-conference instructional sessions on wound care, (full day) lymphedema management for morbidly obese patients, and therapeutic responses to noncompliance and minimizing therapist burnout, will be offered again at the 2010 conference for another opportunity to explore these important topics. The six-hour pre-conference Physicians’ Intensive is back by popular demand to allow physicians to expand their knowledge and incorporate lymphology and care of patients with lymphedema into their existing practice. New to the pre-conference seminars is a full day of hands-on review and presentation of new strategies for compression bandaging.
Attend the popular Plenary Sessions for the latest discoveries from basic, applied and clinical research by clinicians, scientists, and other experts from around the world. Attendees wanting to strengthen particular areas of clinical practice can select from 20 different educational sessions on Friday. Roundtable discussions in the Exhibit Hall will be offered to discuss issues of particular relevance. The Lymph Science Advocacy Program (LSAP) has become an integral aspect of the NLN Conference and is being offered again at this conference. Patient advocates interested in learning more about basic and clinical science through this unique program are invited to submit their applications to the NLN.
One Best New Investigator and one Best Career Investigator will be chosen for the awards. All are encouraged to submit research-based abstracts as well as educational case studies for poster sessions or presentations.
The Exhibit Hall will host industry-related companies from around the world. This is a great opportunity to review and experience the latest innovations, products, and supplies for lymphedema therapy, assessments, wound care, and other treatment modalities. Other exhibits will include training schools and organizations that are recognized for their educational and certification programs. In appreciation of these industrial and educational supporters, there will be a grand prize drawing for those who have visited all of the exhibits. The festivities will be ongoing with opportunities to relax at the pool, play golf, catch up with old friends and make new ones. And don’t forget to allow a few extra days to enjoy the wonderful magic of Disney World.
We look forward to “Breaking Through the Barriers” with all of you in beautiful Orlando. This professional conference will be an excellent venue to explore the new horizons emerging in the field of Lymphology and promises to be a wonderful educational and exciting experience!
